Sponsr is a service where authors charge for access by subscription. If the author deletes a publication or the subscription ends, you lose access to it for good. Readine makes a copy for your personal archive and saves it before anything disappears.
You can only read an author on Sponsr itself. That’s one more place to check every day, along with Telegram, YouTube and wherever else you follow authors. It’s inconvenient to keep them all open, so you end up going through them one by one.
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Switching between services | Each author waits for you on their own service, and switching eats your attention. |
| Something gets missed | The more switching, the less you bother — until you stop reading an author entirely. |
| Notifications do not help | A publication gets buried among other notifications, and you don’t notice it. |
| No way to count what’s unread | You can only see what’s left inside a single service. |
| You can’t find what you’ve already read | You first have to remember where you saw it and which author it was from. There’s no search across everything. |
Text and images arrive in the app in full. A copy is saved in advance, so it stays with you even after the author deletes the publication.
Notes and tags help sort what you have read, and search looks through the whole text. You can set up notifications by keyword.
Publications can be saved as files — to cloud storage or to Obsidian.
Video has to be watched on Sponsr — it won’t play in the app. Comments also stay there.
Updates arrive on a schedule, and you can set how often.
