Fanbox is Pixiv’s service for supporting creators, where illustrators, manga artists and VTubers post artwork and sketches. Readine saves the author’s posts for your personal archive.
A work on Fanbox can be taken down, and what you paid for will no longer be available. If you don’t check the site every 5 minutes, you may not even notice that a post ever existed.
Readine solves this: it checks on a schedule and makes copies. You buy the password-protected feeds module, connect a Pixiv account, choose the author. From then on, the illustrations download to your device, and for an extra fee you can export them to your disk as files.
| What | On Fanbox | In Readine |
|---|---|---|
| The work was removed | you lose access | the copy stays with you |
| Post | on the site | downloaded in advance |
| Illustrations | in the author’s gallery | downloaded in advance |
| Export to files | manually | automatically |
The post arrives in full, together with the pictures, on all plans. The copy is downloaded in advance and stays even if the author deletes the post.
Notes, tags and full-text search are supported. You can set up rules for the feed, and keyword notifications are available as a separate module.
What you have read is exported as a file to cloud storage or to Obsidian. Export is one-way.
You can export to the cloud or to Obsidian. The file contains the full text of the post and its images. Video isn’t downloaded, and animated GIFs are saved as a still image.
Export to cloud storage works with Dropbox, Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive and Yandex Disk.
When exporting to Obsidian, the file will be in Markdown format.
| What | To the cloud | To Obsidian |
|---|---|---|
| Feeds | all or the selected ones | all or the selected ones |
| Posts | only new | new and existing |
| Condition | a word in the text, title or tag | the same, plus read and favourite status |
| What is inside the file | the full text with pictures | the full text with pictures, tags and notes |
| Format | HTML or DOCX | Markdown |
Q: Will the illustrations be kept if the author deletes the post or it gets taken down?
A: The offline copy stays, and so does any exported file. A deleted post can’t be downloaded again.
Q: At what size are the illustrations saved?
A: The size is reduced to save bandwidth.
Q: Do I need to visit Fanbox?
A: Only to set up or renew support for an author, to view an image at full resolution, or to watch a video — and that’s rare.
Q: What do I need to add an author?
A: You need the password-protected feeds module, a Pixiv account and access to the author’s page.
